Recently, I played a bit of Makoto again. Cos she is just wayyyyy too fun to play.
The most annoying, stupid and worst match up is of cos… against Yun.
Yun has this typical attack patterns when they managed to get a dive kick in against Makoto
1. Dive kick > Dive kick. This is for avoiding reversal EX Karakusa.
2. Dive kick > random block strings.
3. Dive kick > Command grab.
This are the main 3 mix ups Yuns will usually do when they dive kick in. To counter all this nonsense.
Against 1, backdash works but puts you at disadvantage. When Makoto recovers from her backdash, you cant do anything except backdash yet again… There is nothing you can do. Best option is yomi, jump forward HP. This beats neutral dive kicks CLEAN, after jump HP air hits > dash > 50/50 mix up. This will make Yun be slightly more concerned about throwing dive kicks too much. Focus backdash is also a good option.
Against 2, backdash if Yun player can’t OS lunge punch. EX karakusa reversal beats all block string clean. This also prevents Yun front just walking back to bait throw techs.
Against 3, backdash. Punish with EX hayate or ultra 2. Backdash > dash > command grab should be guaranteed as well.
Aside from all this 3 options. Blocking a dive kick that doesnt hit below your body level. Jump Back or mash normal standing throw beats all if not most options.
The idea is to give Yun as much risk as possible when he attacks you. If Yun understands the amount of risk he have to take, there is higher chance of winning.
Lastly, I pick Ultra1 instead of Ultra2. Seems to work better.

Against Adon. Walk around. Wait for Jaguar kick and Jaguar Tooth. sMP to beat those. If sMP hits them in the air, dash forward for mix up.
Against Fei. This is a bad match up. Tsurugi(jump axe kick) beats rekka if timed correctly. sMP beats chicken wing. Usually the whole match is about poking with cMP/sMP while buffering ex hayate. Most of the time I wouldnt bother throwing Feilong cos usually they will just mash Chicken wing. U1 is guaranteed after blocking rekka on the 2nd hit.
Against Seth. Use U2. Fukiage(uppercut) works very well on Seth. It beats most of his dive kicks and cross up. Focusing seth’s long dhalsim punch will get a guaranteed EX hayate. Seth usually have to do something once Makoto have U2. Learn to block some of his mix ups. EX Karakusa and backdashing can kill seth’s ground mix up game easily.
